A CAPITAL VIEW
a limited edition portfolio by Craig J. Sterling

DEDICATION

ON THE 200th ANNIVERSARY OF PIERRE L'ENFANT'S PLAN FOR A FEDERAL CITY ON THE BANKS OF THE POTOMAC RIVER, I DEDICATE THIS PORTFOLIO, "A CAPITAL VIEW" TO HIS MEMORY.

IN KEEPING WITH L'ENFANT'S VISION, AS AN ARTIST, MY GOAL WAS TO VISUALLY COMMUNICATE THE POWER, STRENGTH AND PRISTINE BEAUTY INHERENT IN WASHINGTON, D.C. AND HER LANDMARKS THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY.

THE DIGNITY AND SHEAR GRANDEUR OF OUR NATIONAL TREASURES ILLUMINATED AGAINST THE DARKNESS AROUSED MY PATRIOTISM AND STIRRED MY CREATIVITY. "A CAPITAL VIEW" IS MY SPECIAL WAY OF PAYING TRIBUTE TO PIERRE L'ENFANT.

The 10 photographs contained in this portfolio of 150 editions and 15 artist's proofs were taken in the period from July 1990 - March 1991. Photography of Washington, D.C. landmarks is an on-going project. All images were personally printed by Craig J. Sterling on fiber-based paper, processed to exacting archival standards, signed, numbered, matted and presented in a custom case made from the highest quality acid-free materials. All photographs are copyright 1991, Craig J. Sterling. No photograph contained in this portfolio may be reproduced in any form without permission in writing from the artist.
